Grenada versus Guyana dubbed benefit match PDF Print E-mail

When Grenada meets Guyana in an international friendly next Wednesday, proceeds from the game will go toward assisting former national Goal Keeper and Goal Keeper Coach, Kellon Baptiste.

Kellon Baptiste

Baptiste who served Grenada at all levels of the game from the tender age of fourteen is currently battling with cancer. The former player, who is currently in the USA undergoing treatment, has been battling with the disease for some time now and the GFA is using this opportunity to assist the family with their expenses.

Baptiste represented Grenada at Under 17, Under 20, Senior men’s and his last appointment was a Goal Keeper Coach. He had to relinquish the position of Goal Keeper Coach only days before the Spice Boyz journeyed to last year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States.

The entire Grenada Football Association is praying for a speedy recovery and has undertaken to make its international friendly against Guyana a benefit match for the former national player.

“We regret what he is experiencing at this time, but it’s our hope that he will win this fight”, President of the Grenada Football Association, Cheney Joseph said.

“Kellon has served this country well, and I know he would have loved to do so for many more years to come” the GFA Boss indicated.

Baptiste made his debut for Grenada in 1991 and was signed by the St. Louis Steamers of the MISL, and only played one half of the season for the Steamers in the 2004-2005 season. He last represented Grenada versus the United States in St. George’s 2004, in the FIFA World Cup preliminaries. Grenada lost that game three goals to one.

Wednesday’s game between Grenada and Guyana at the national football stadium will kick of at 7.00pm.
