Grenada Super League moves into another gear
Preparation for the Grenada Super League has moved into another gear as teams now are engaged in warm up matches in an effort to select their final squad and fine tune their player. Grenada Super League is carded to commence on March 10th 2012 at the Victoria Park in Grenville. Last Saturday, St. Patrick Chiefs playing away from home came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in their first warm up match against St. Andrew Planters.
The Planters took the lead early in the second half but a fighting effort in the dying stage of the game saw the Chiefs secure confident boosting equalizer. St. Patrick Chiefs were without the service of ace national striker Clive Murray who is currently in Thailand on a contract with Roi ET FC. The Chiefs (St. Patrick) takes on the Planters (St. Andrew) in the opening game on March 10th.
Earlier in the week, The St. Mark’s Sharks edged past the St. George’s Stars1-0 in a warm up at the National Stadium. It was interesting to witness two young coaches, the likes of Anthony Modeste (St. George’s) and Andrew Munro (St. Mark’s) managing their senior squads after such illustrious career as players. ‘This is an investment that the GFA will hopefully benefit from more so in years to come as these young coaches gather the much needed experience.’ Commented the President of GFA, Cheney Joseph. Most of the Parish teams are coached by very young talented coaches.
The other warm up match played was between the St. David’s Lions and St. John’s Wizards. It was entertaining 4- 4 draw at Queen's Park Ground.
Meanwhile Otis Roberts, CEO of Jason Roberts Foundation and former National midfielder who is working very close with the GFA is expected to make a bid to secure more contract opportunities for our local footballers.
Roberts who is on the island has identified many local players whom he believes have a great shot at an international career. Roberts witnessed two of the games and believes all that is needed is further exposure and support from the GFA.
